Higher taxation, higher fuel prices and rotten road surfaces mean we need an affordable, smart looking family vehicle for all occasions and all seasons. A vehicle that can cope with stay at home holidays in the Summer, the school run all the year round and the worst that Winter weather can throw at us.

One of the best cars to enter the market over the last six months was the Peugeot 3008 ‘crossover’, a finalist in the International Car of the Year 2010 competition and What Car? magazine’s 2010 Car of the Year. It was probably my car of the year as well although it was a close run thing with the new Volkswagen Polo.

As Peugeot are planning to up their market share to 8% of the Chinese market, they are going to need some new models. Their current Chinese model is entirely made up of hatchbacks, and then sedans which are essentially notchback versions of the hatches, although Peugeot have stated before that they do plan to build some China only models which will take in various Chinese ideas and styles for the local market. Peugeot is currently lacking a crossover model in a market where crossover and compact SUV’s are king, hence their willingness to launch the Peugeot 3008 in China.
